Yasiin “Mos Def” Bey Allowed to Leave South Africa + Announces Final Shows


On November 22nd, Yasiin Bey, or formerly known as Mos Def, was allowed to finally leave South Africa after previously breaking immigration laws by attempting to use fake passport. After sincerely apologizing for his actions, the South African Home Affairs Department let him free, commenting that, “The department is satisfied with the apology and will withdraw the charges against him.” Bey has decided to retire from performing and announce his last few shows in New York City and Washington, D.C. The first show will take place at Harlem’s Apollo Theater on December 21 and the second show in Washington D.C will include Bey and many other special guests for a New Year’s Eve celebratory performance at the Kennedy Center from December 3, 2016 – January 2, 2017. Executive Producer of the Apollo Theater, Kamilah Forbes, says, “We’re so excited to collaborate with the Kennedy Center on what will be a milestone moment in not only hip-hop history but also in popular culture.”
