Vh1 has now added another line of work under Dj Premier’s belt that includes music, and games; the corp has named the legendary New York music producer the executive score producer of “The Breaks,” a flashback to the 1990’s chronicling the journey of Nikki, David and Deevee, three friends united by their love of hip-hop, as they work to make their big mark in the music industry. The film will be directed and executively produced by Seith Mann, who has credits in films like “The Wire,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Homeland.” Don’t get too antsy for the film though, Vh1 plans to set premiere date for late Fall 2015.
It’s definitely no surprise that the legendary producer is now dipping his feet in the film industry. For over 25 years he has molded hip-hop’s sound with credits in Nas’s Illmatic, The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die, Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt, Jeru the Damaja’s The Sun Rises in the East and Mos Def’s Black on Both Sides. His unique orchestrated sound has earned him three Grammy’s, an active label and a legendary studio ready to mold the next generation of hip hop.
“The Breaks” is the Premier’s first in line of film projects ahead. So keep a lookout for the premier date as well as other films Preemo is sure to produce musically.
