Breakin ‘n’ Enterin’ – West Coast Hip Hop Doc (1983) http://www.whitelabelradio.net/breakin-n-enterin-west-coast-hip-hop-doc-1983/ http://www.whitelabelradio.net/breakin-n-enterin-west-coast-hip-hop-doc-1983/#respond Mon, 11 Jan 2016 15:57:14 +0000 http://www.whitelabelradio.net/?p=2497

Breakin’ N Enterin’ (Hip-Hop & B-Boying In LA) is a film from 1983 that documented the then nascent LA B-boy scene and inspired Breakin’. It featured many of the players that went on to star in Breakin’ and gave a glimpse at their real lives. Shabba Doo, Boogaloo Shrimp and a very young Ice-T are among those highlighted. And, of course, there is lots of dancing. Unlike the New York scene where the focus was mostly on floor work, West Coast b-boys spent a lot more time Poppin’, Lockin’ and Uprockin’.

Former Bad Boy artist, “G-Dep,” also known by his real name, Trevell Coleman, spoke to DJ Vlad about why he decided in 2011 to confess to a murder he committed during a robbery attempt in 1993. Although, the rapper had gotten away with the crime for almost 18 years, he says it didn’t feel that way to him, “I didn’t feel free and clear.” He explained, “Every day, I was faced with this memory and this heinous act, that really didn’t have to happen.”

The D.O.C. on Co-Writing Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ & Paperwork Not Being Right http://www.whitelabelradio.net/the-d-o-c-on-co-writing-dr-dres-the-chronic-paperwork-not-being-right/ http://www.whitelabelradio.net/the-d-o-c-on-co-writing-dr-dres-the-chronic-paperwork-not-being-right/#respond Mon, 11 Jan 2016 08:22:58 +0000 http://www.whitelabelradio.net/?p=2491

As DJ Vlad lists tracks off of Dr. Dre’s legendary “The Chronic” album, The D.O.C. recalls contributing to some of the biggest hits on the multi-platinum selling album. During the interview, he talks about working on “Nothin’ But A ‘G’ Thang” with Snoop Dogg telling DJ Vlad, “That was one of the first records that Snoop and I worked together on.” He said, “It was me imparting—if you will—to him the formula, for lack of a better way.” As The D.O.C. reminisced about working on most of the album, he admits further into the interview that his alcohol and drug habits may have been the reason behind his improper paperwork. “It’s not about them, it’s about me. I’m drinking everyday. I’m probably doing drugs everyday.”

RZA Remixes Adrian Younge’s “Hands of God” In Honor of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight http://www.whitelabelradio.net/rza-remixes-adrian-younges-hands-of-god-in-honor-of-quentin-tarantinos-the-hateful-eight/ http://www.whitelabelradio.net/rza-remixes-adrian-younges-hands-of-god-in-honor-of-quentin-tarantinos-the-hateful-eight/#respond Fri, 08 Jan 2016 16:12:58 +0000 http://www.whitelabelradio.net/?p=2500

To celebrate the release of director Quentin Tarantino’s 8th film, Hateful Eight, Rza presents “Hands of God,” the commemorative version. This special song serves as a remix to Younge’s Hands of God, the original to be released on Younge’s upcoming Something About April II, January 21. Hands of God synthesizes the audiovisual style of the legendary Ennio Morricone (Hateful Eight composer) with the rugged and raw musical aesthetics created by Wu tang founder Rza. Alongside the abbot, two of Younge’s favorite vocalist are also featured: Karolina and Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab).

On behalf of Rza and Linear labs, we would like to congratulate Quentin on another extraordinary motion picture creation. Please enjoy this remix and support Hateful 8, in theaters. Shot on 70 mm film, the special roadshow engagement pays homage to the grand and long forgotten exhibitions of yesteryear.

Taken from Adrian Younge’s Album, Something About April II.

Check out the trailer for “The Hateful Eight” below.
